As a blues fan it is great to see how the genre has so deeply influenced so much of the popular music we listen to. This is certainly an example in that Little Richard is another artist who has taken the basic 12 bar blues form and adapted it, filled it with his own unique energy and then put it out as another part of the developing rock and roll genre.
His use of stop time is featured here and became one of the hallmarks of Little Richard's style. As noted in the text article, he adapts the 12 bar blues format to the verse/chorus expectations of listeners by making the first two lines of each repetition vary (verses) and then keeps the third line of each group the same (chorus). It is really an ingenious solution - enough familiarity to be recognized by blues fans combined with a recognizable strophic form for everyone else.
