Tiger Rag

With this we are starting to get into what we tend to think of as classic Dixieland jazz - the high energy interplay of cornet, clarinet and trombone with a rhythm section of banjo/piano/bass and drum set keeping things driving behind them.  There is also the frequent use of stop time with different instruments taking turns filling in the gap.

There does not appear to be a particularly identifiable melody anywhere other than in the later section where the trombone gliss section has led to our mental association with the words "Hold that tiger".  The focus is more on the weaving back and forth between the cornet and clarinet of rapidly changing parts over a walking bass line provided by the trombone.
