This is the classic crooner phase of Frank Sinatra - before his voice got rough from years of smoking and booze (and hanging out with mobsters... but that's for another day!) It makes it easier to understand why the girls went so crazy for him in his early years - he was definitely handsome and this is a great example of the smooth voice that he had in those early years.
This particular song is a great example of what the text calls "light music" of the time - a simple sentimental ballad. Although Sinatra always remained identified with the big band sound in many ways, this is a good example of his "softer" side. In particular, the use of strings as opposed to the more standard reeds and brass stands out here.
